Alien: River of Pain summary & excerpts
Cain was inspecting one when the top peeled back and this thing launched itself at him. But he was wearing a pressure helmet. It broke through the faceplate. They bleed molecular acid, so I'm assuming that they can spit or secrete it, too. It burned away the helmet enough to fasten itself on him. And you were where when this happened? Aboard the Nostromo, monitoring the helmet feeds. So, assuming you were following normal quarantine procedure, how did the creature get aboard? The facehugger on Cain? Ash, the science officer, he opened the airlock. Against my orders. Cain was taken to the medbay. Some hours later, the facehugger dropped off him and died. We thought that was that. Until an alien infant burst out of Cain's chest and escaped into the ship. And only 24 hours later, this infant had become a full-grown creature. A seven-foot monster preying upon your fellow crew. It all seems to have happened at a very unlikely speed. Believe me, it happened. Thanks to that bastard Ash. Your dreams are populated by so many grotesque creatures. You claim science officer Ash was a synthetic? I didn't know he was a goddamn android till I saw Parker knock him to pieces with a pipe wrench. Why would the company put a synthetic aboard your ship without telling you? So Ash could bring one of these things home for their bioweapons department. He was programmed to do so under Special Order 937. Look, I'm never going to change my story and you're never going to believe me. Can't you at least sign me off as fit to work so I can get a job? They're interviewing for power loader training in the cargo bay in 15 minutes. And there's a hungry cat in my apartment. Very well, Ripley. I'll mark today's psych evaluation up as an improvement on the last one. But we have a long way to go before you come to terms with your delusional state. You know, I was almost beginning to feel the same way about these memories. But then I heard that there are now colonists on LV-426. The moon they called Acheron. Now I know it's only a matter of time before my nightmare becomes theirs. I wish I could say it would be a comfort. I wish I could say it would be a comfort. But I know that when that happens, the company will have another chance to get what it's after. Then it'll be everybody's nightmare. June 22nd, 2179. Acceptable. Weyland Yutani, head of science, Dr. Bartholomew Reese's quarters. Marley's Hope Colony, Acheron. Sadly, Marlbeck really doesn't travel well. Yes? Bartholomew, it's Morrie. Of course. I'll buzz you in. Good evening. Morrie. You have the most peculiar look on your face. What is it? Oh my goodness, are you smiling? Indigestion. You haven't looked at your messages recently. Never after 6pm, for my sanity. What message was this? Al Simpson has just received a special order marked Urgent. Copies were also transmitted to yourself and to me. In it, a Weyland Yutani executive named Carter Burke has sent surface grid coordinates with instructions that a survey team be dispatched immediately to investigate the site. The answer to the Nostromo mystery? With that kind of urgency, what else could it be? It might be some other find, a geological feature that hints at the presence of ruins, perhaps. The coordinates are centered on the one area left unsurveyed in all our years of research here. The Ilium Plateau. The very destination we had tagged next for exploration. And the most inaccessible, but why the suddenness? Some new information about the Nostromo from a previously unknown source, I presume. The Nostromo. What more is there beyond the basic facts? Nearly 60 years ago, an ore freighter is diverted off course to one of these moons orbiting Kalpamos to respond to what the crew believes is a distress call. It subsequently vanishes. But Weyland weren't even sure that Acheron was the moon in question. Locating any trace of the Nostromo was always a side quest to our research here.
